Health Fitness Articles

I have always been the kind of person to study something in depth before getting my feet wet. A lot of people call me obsessional, but I don't see it that way. For me, it is all about getting all the information I need to so I can make the right decisions. That is why, when I decided to get in shape, I read all the health fitness articles that I could before I took my first step on the tread mill. By reading fitness and health articles until I felt like I was an expert, I was able to design the optimum workout for my needs.

Health fitness articles are one of the most popular reading subjects nowadays. Our culture is kind of a paradox if you think about it. On the one hand, we have bigger problems with obesity than ever before. On the other hand, more and more people are obsessed with staying healthy and fit. I guess it makes sense if you look at it right. In a culture where people have healthy eating habits and exercise regularly, health fitness articles are less important. In a culture were people don't know anything about staying in shape, however, articles on staying healthy are a godsend.

As I said before, I read a lot of health fitness articles, but not all of them stuck. I was surprised because the ones that made the most impact were the ones with the most general and common sense rules. For example, my favorite health fitness article was about exercising. It said that the biggest mistake that people make is to find overambitious exercise routines based on someone else's idea of the perfect exercises. It advised me to come up with a routine that involve activities that I actually enjoyed instead of activities that I thought would develop the most muscle mass or cardiovascular strength. Knowing this, I was able to incorporate bicycle riding and swimming – two activities that I absolutely love – into a good workout.

I also read a health fitness article that told me the relationship between eating habits and exercising. This is really important for me because I also had bad eating habits in addition to being too sedentary. They tell me that eating the right foods would give me the energy that I would need to work out and stay active. Wouldn't you know it – once I started changing my diet, I did have more impetus to get out and start running around.

Healthy Living Life Style

The definition of healthy living is different for each and every person, but there are two things that most agree on. You have to learn to eat good foods that nourish your body, and you have to have some sort of exercise in your day to day life. These things can be harder than people think when they set off on a new plan for a better life, and that is why it is sometimes smart to go ahead one step at a time until you have gotten where you want to be with your lifestyle habits and your health.

Diet modification is a great start when moving towards healthy living. This is something that you have to be careful with, however, as there is a lot of bad advice out there. If you aren’t sure which way to turn, talk with your doctor about changing your diet for healthy living, and get recommendations from them. They will probably know the name of a good nutritionist that can get you going on the right track. These people can show you what you should be eating, what to avoid, and what you can have in moderation. A nutritionist should have a college degree, so don’t be afraid to ask them about their training.

If you aren’t sure about exercise in regards to healthy living, know that any type of movement is good for you. If you are not someone who moves around a lot, you can get some great benefits from just walking around the block. After a while, you may want to add more to your routine, and that is when a gym is a great idea. You should hire a personal trainer to help you find the things that work best for you in your quest for healthy living. Remember, not all personal trainers are good. If someone seems off or you don’t like what they are doing, do yourself a favor and move on to the next one.

Other parts of healthy living might be things you have to quit doing. This might mean you have to find a way to stop smoking, and you may have to alter or lower your intake of alcohol. You may have more trouble with these than anything else that you do. What you should do is visit with your doctor again, only this time tell them you want help with quitting or cutting back. There is a lot of emphasis on healthy living these days, and most doctors will be glad to help you in your quest, even if they feel that they have to refer you to someone else. It’ll be hard to change all of these things, but once you get going, you will enjoy your results too much to turn back to life before you found healthy habits.

Breast Cancer Research

It seems that there are so many charitable causes that you cannot begin to give to all of them. My husband and I give to our church and the charities that it sponsors. That is the bulk of our cash donations. We also give to the food shelf and donate clothing and house hold items to the homeless and needy. It was not until my sister developed cancer that I thought about donating to medical research.

Eighteen months ago my sister called me to let me know that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. This came as a huge surprise to both of us because there is no history in our family. She is an x-ray technician so she is very aware of the importance of getting mammograms and she has been getting one every year since she was forty years old. It was during her annual mammogram that the lump showed up on the test. The doctors told her all of her options and shared with her that they thought she would be a good candidate for a new treatment. There have been many advancements in breast cancer research and they wanted to try a new chemotherapy on her. Since my sister is in the medical field she has always had an interest in new research. She was willing to try the treatments. If they did not work they would remove her breast. They explained that she would not be risking the cancer spreading because the type she had was slow to develop, and they felt that it was at a very early stage. The breast cancer research that developed the treatments they were to use on her was done at the Mayo Clinic.

I called our nephew who is a pharmaceutical researcher at the Mayo and asked him if he could find additional information about this particular breast cancer research. He told me that a friend of his was working on the breast cancer research team and he could find out what type of results they are getting with the patients that have been taking the treatments. He called me a few days later and shared that the results have been very good. He also thought that it was a plus for my sister that she was chosen for the treatments, because they are only taking candidates that have a good chance of responding to the treatments. The breast cancer research project has been working on this cure for over ten years, so they need to show great results to keep the project going.

My sister had her first treatment seventeen months ago and the lump and all signs of cancer are gone. She is in a long term follow up group so they are checking her often for any changes. She did not have to have the surgery and she is back to doing all the activities that she had done previously.
