Benefits of Condensing Boilers

Condensing boilers are up to 30 percent more efficient than traditional boilers but are also more complicated and harder to install. Recent legislation in the United Kingdom, however, requires all new gas and oil boilers installed in homes to be condensing boilers. Condensing boilers are a fairly new type of boiler that extract more of the heat energy in the gas (or oil, or any other fuel) than non-condensing boilers and turn it into useable heat to warm your home with. This means they burn less gas or oil for the same amount of heating, leading to slightly lower fuel bills and slightly less carbon dioxide emitted by the boiler into the atmosphere. Condensing boilers are harder to service. The only other check required will be the effectiveness of the condensate trap and discharge pipe.

Condensing boilers are most efficient when they are condensing. Domestic and small commercial heating systems are designed on 82C flow and 71C return temperature, mean primary water temperature is 76.5C = 11C differential. Condensing boilers are ideal for large properties, properties with extensive heating systems or large heat load requirements, e.g. If there is a large difference between the boiler flow and return temperatures, then a condensing boiler should be considered. Condensing boilers are more efficient than ordinary boilers and so produce less carbon dioxide, while still meeting heating needs. They reduce the amount of heat that escapes up the flue, compared with ordinary boilers. Efficency ratings can vary slightly according to system setup. Compared to standard type boilers, condensing boilers should easily out preform older boilers by as much as 10-13%.

Installing only high-efficiency boilers will help the UK to achieve reductions in carbon emissions and so reduce the impact of climate change. If everyone in the UK had a condensing boiler our annual carbon dioxide emissions would be reduced by 17.5 million tonnes, and it would also result in a saving of 1.3 billion on energy bills every year. Condensing boilers are the most efficient heating appliance in an energy-conscious climate. Condensing boilers are most efficient when operating in condensing mode. Even in none condensing mode they are more efficient than traditional boilers.

Yes by installing only high-efficiency boilers will help to achieve reductions in carbon emissions and so reduce the impact of climate change. If your Gas boiler service is inefficient and you need to replace it with a more efficient system.
